In order to pursue a personal injury case after a car accident, you must not be at fault for the accident. If somebody else's negligence causes a crash and you are injured, you may be able to pursue a personal injury case.

All types of vehicles can be involved in car accidents. Amongst these are cars, trucks, motorcycles, SUVs, minivans, buses, trains, bicycles, semi tractor-tailer trucks, pedestrians, scooters and many, many more.

There are many different types of car accidents. Amongst these are rear-end car accidents, roll-over accidents, head-on collisions, and t-bone collisions - amongst others.

There are many different causes of car accidents as well. Amongst these are distracted driving, drinking and driving (DUI), text messaging and simple poor driving.

Many different types of injuries can result from a car accident. These include neck and back injuries, herniated discs, spinal injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. Catastrophic injuries can result from car wrecks. Victims of car accidents can experience several different types of paralysis, including paraplegia and quadriplegia.

Victims of car accidents can also experience injuries to other parts of their bodies. These include fractures to noses, shoulders, collar-bones, arms, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers, ribs, hips, pelvises, legs, knees, shins, ankles, and toes.

If you are in a car accident, the first question will be the type of insurance coverage carried by the people involved in the accident. When you go to buy automobile insurance, you have several options for types of insurance you can buy. In the State of Florida, if you buy auto insurance, you will automatically receive Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance. PIP insurance will cover you for up to $10,000 of your medical bills and lost wages. The law on PIP insurance has, however, recently been changed - and it remains to be seen how the new law will affect the PIP insurance landscape.

You also have the option of buying Bodily Injury Coverage (BI). BI insurance will cover you if you are in an accident and injure somebody else. BI will cover the injured person if it was your negligence that caused the injury.

Finally, you have the option of purchasing Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM). UM insurance will cover you for your own injuries if somebody else causes an accident and injures you and that somebody else either does not have any car insurance or does not have enough insurance to cover you for your injuries.

In the State of Florida, there are a lot of uninsured drivers. Therefore, it may be a good idea to consider purchasing UM coverage.

All in all, if you get in an accident and you are considering pursuing a personal injury case, there are several questions you need to ask yourself:

1) was somebody else at fault for the accident? If not, you will probably not be able to pursue a case.

2) were you injured in the crash? If not, you will not be able to pursue a personal injury case. You may be able to pursue a property damage case if you vehicle was damaged. However, you cannot pursue a personal injury case unless you yourself were physically injured.

3) did the people involved in the accident have enough insurance coverage to cover you for your injuries? You must first consider the driver that caused the accident. If that driver had enough BI coverage to cover you for your injuries, that driver will be the defendant in any case and you may be able to recover compensation from that driver's insurance company. On the other hand, if that driver either did not have any or did not have enough BI coverage, you may look to your own UM coverage (if you had it). If you had UM coverage, you may be able to recover compensation from your own UM insurance if the other driver either did not have any or did not have enough BI coverage.

In the State of Florida, when you go to buy automobile insurance, the insurance vendor must (by law) give you the option of purchasing UM insurance. If the vendor doesn't and you later sustain injuries in an accident, you may be deemed to automatically have a UM policy. The size of the UM policy will be the same as the BI policy that you purchased. For example, if you purchased a $100,000 BI policy, you will be deemed to have purchased a $100,000 UM policy automatically if the insurance vendor didn't give you the option of purchasing UM insurance.
